When floodwaters began rising in Northern NSW last week, many families were forced to make split-second decisions. For the Tutt family, one thing was certain - Lacey's netball gear was going with them.
As evacuation orders swept through the region, 14-year-old Lacey Tutt made sure her netball essentials were packed first, before the technology, before anything else because she was heading to the Senior State Titles.
The Tutt family are quiet achievers and are always the first to put their hand up to help, never seeking recognition. Lacey not only plays netball at a representative level, she also gives back by coaching a Saturday team. Her younger sister Zoe is just as dedicated in her own way, planning to spend the Senior State Titles on the side-lines cheering Lacey on, taking stats, and proudly keeping her own score sheet.
They are a gentle, close-knit family, full of quiet determination and love and no matter the scoreboard, you’ll always find smiles on their faces when they’re around netball.
When the floods hit, the family stayed as long as they safely could. They’ve seen water rise in their street before, but never through the house. Still, when it did come, it came fast.
They’re now staying in Eungai Creek, likely for the next 12 months while insurance processes unfold. Despite everything, the Tutt family remains grounded in love, sport and community. At Senior State Titles this weekend, Lacey is taking the court proudly. Zoe will be on the side-line with her clipboard and pen.
Netball NSW has launched a Flood Recovery Appeal to support families like the Tutt's who have been impacted by the recent natural disasters across Northern NSW.
