Jade Olsen is a member of Wagga Wagga Netball Association with over five years of umpiring experience.
Netball NSW would like to congratulate Jade following her selection from the HART Regional League to represent the Riverina region at the 2021 Regional State Cup.
We chatted with Jade, pictured above left, to discuss her journey…
Why do you love umpiring?
Fitness, friendship amongst umpire groups, a way to stay involved in the game after finishing playing, and it helps with playing, coaching and giving back to the sport
Who has inspired you in your umpiring career and why?
Amanda McLachlan - her commitment and passion for umpiring, seeing what she has achieved and all her help. I also would like to acknowledge the experienced National B umpires in the Riverina that devote so much time to the sport in terms of umpiring. They inspire me to be better and give back to netball.
What is the best tip you have received about umpiring?
Eyes up and don’t overthink it!
What is the best tip you have for up-and-coming umpires?
Get involved; be confident with whistle and have a loud voice.
What is a challenge/setback you have had to overcome in your umpiring journey?
Injuries and living in a regional area.
