Heading into the half way point of our 2021 DOOLEYS Metro League Season, let’s see how the teams are going.
Five teams from our six divisions remain undefeated in the competition so far with Manly Warringah being two of those teams as well Randwick, who entered our Division 6 competition this year. The competition is tight with only one win separating the top half of the ladder in Divisions 1-4.
Who will hold onto their lead and who will trail as we head into the back half of the season? Why not come check out the action live? Purchase your tickets here.
Last week, the DOOLEYS Metro League competition celebrated Indigenous Round during National Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week runs from the 27 May to the 3 June. The dates are significant as they commemorate the successful 1967 referendum and the Mabo High Court decision.
Reconciliation Australia’s theme for 2021, More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action. This year marks 20 years of Reconciliation Australia and almost three decades of Australia’s formal reconciliation process.
This year we had a Welcome to Country performed by Peta Strachan from the Boorooberongal People of the Darug Nation before both our Division 1 and Division 2 matches.
Camden & District Netball Association also celebrated National Reconciliation Week in their own special way. Earlier this year they called for submissions for bib designs from their Indigenous Players. A design submitted by Kylie Navitidad was chosen and all three of Camden’s Metro League teams wore these bibs for their matches.
Kylie is a proud Dharug Nation woman who grew up in the Liverpool area, Dharug country, and now lives on Dharawal land. She is an Aboriginal caseworker supporting aboriginal families in her local area. Painting makes her feel connected to her family and culture.
The design is called “One River, Many People”. The design represents “the coming together” of different people. The river represents the water we all share, the land we live on and the air we breathe; with people all coming together no matter the different countries, cultures or beliefs they have. Kylie painted this design thinking of her family past and present coming together physically, emotionally and spiritually.
We were very excited to have an Association celebrate and acknowledge National Reconciliation Week with their teams and we hope it only grows in future years.
