Dooleys Metro League Wrap Up #4
Last week saw the DOOLEYS Metro League season enter into round 1 of the finals series and there were some EPIC battles on display! All athletes showed incredible sportsmanship and we congratulate you all for the passion, endurance and strength you displayed on and off the court.
To all teams that will not be progressing further into the Finals Series, we wish you all a restful off season, and to those that are playing for a spot in the Grand Final this week, we wish you all the best and are looking forward to some of the greatest matches we have seen to date.
Monday – Division 3 & 4
Tonight sees Camden and District 2 up against Manly Warringah 2 in the division 3 Preliminary Final. This season, Camden finished the regular season at the top of the ladder on 29 points, racing to the finish line two points in front of Randwick 2.
With the Grand Final set in their sights, Camden went down to Randwick 2 last week, with Randwick securing their place in the Grand Final, and Camden having to battle through another week, after finishing in 1st place. The battle of Camden and Manly tonight is set to be unforgettable, as Camden are playing with a point to prove to earn their spot in the Grand Final, while Manly Warringah 2, who finished in 3rd place and beat Northern Suburbs 3 by 23 points, are up for a cracking match up.
On show tonight in the division 4 Preliminary Finals, we see Hills District 3 up against Bankstown City 1 for what is set up to be a showstopper. With Hills finishing the regular season in 3rd place, and Bankstown wrapping up the season in 4th place, tonight’s match is one that Hills will have their sights on being triumphant over their opponents on. Sutherland Shire 2 progressed through to the Grand Final last week with a convincing 11 point win, and they are now waiting and ready for their opponents to be decided and meet them next week in the big dance!
Tuesday – Division 5 & 6
The award this week for the nail biter match definitely as Sutherland Shire 3 in focus, as they progressed into the division 5 Grand Final with a one-point win over Baulkham Hills Shire 4, allowing the side from Baulkham Hills another shot at the title with the Preliminary Final match against Penrith District 2 on Tuesday night. We are looking forward to a grandstand finish in this match as we wait alongside Sutherland Shire 3, who their opponents will be in the Grand Final next week.
Central Coast had a whopping win over Bankstown City 2 in last week’s Semi Final, going up by 23 points and winning the match 64 – 41, scoring themselves a place in the Grand Final next week. Who will be their opposition? We find out tonight, as Bankstown City 2 are up against Randwick 4, who were match winners last week by 2 points against Sutherland Shire. These two teams finished 2nd and 3rd place respectively on the ladder in division 6. This sets us up for an entertaining match tomorrow night.
Thursday – Division 1 & 2
The DOOLEYS Metro Preliminary Finals wrap up with division 1 ad 2 matches on Thursday night. Congratulations are in order this week for Hills District 1 and Eastwood Ryde 1 who came out as victors over their Semi Final opponents. The win for Hills allows them a spot in the Grand Final next week. Having finished 3rd, Eastwood Ryde are in with another shot at a spot in the Grand Final, as they front up against Baulkham Hills Shire 1 on Thursday night.
Baulkham Hills Shire wrapped up the regular season on 27 points, 1 point in front of Eastwood Ryde, and with the competition being so tight, this could mean that this week’s Preliminary Final is anyone’s game.
If you were lucky enough to be at last week’s division 2 matches, then you were in for a treat! Two matches were played and they kept everybody on the edge of their seats until the very end. Northern Suburbs were crowned winners in a 39-40 win over Manly Warringah 1, and Hawkesbury City 1 caused an upset over Camden and District 1 taking out the match also by a point, with a final score of 41-42. Division 2 teams are hungry to occupy the second grand final spot, and Thursday night’s match up looks set to be a match you won’t want to miss!
