A record 93 teams and approximately 900 participants converged on Wollongong across the weekend for the 2026 Netball NSW Masters State Titles and Aware Super Social Masters, showcasing the continued growth of netball across all ages in New South Wales.
After two fun-filled days of competition, Eastwood Ryde was crowned 2026 Netball NSW Masters State Champions, securing a fourth consecutive title ahead of runners-up Baulkham Hills.
In one of the closest finishes in recent memory, just 1.4 per cent separated the two teams after they finished level on competition points with identical win-loss records.
The achievement continued Eastwood Ryde's remarkable run of Masters success, with the defending champions once again emerging victorious against some of the state's most experienced players.
While the battle for championship honours provided plenty of excitement, the weekend once again showcased the unique spirit that has made the Masters weekend one of the most anticipated events on the Netball NSW calendar.
Running alongside the State Titles, the Aware Super Social Masters celebrated its largest event yet, with participants travelling from across New South Wales to reconnect with teammates, make new memories and enjoy a weekend built around friendship, fun and a shared love of netball.
Among the standout stories was Birrong ‘Six Over Sixty’ SOS, which claimed the O40 Purple title after another memorable Social Masters campaign.
The victory capped off a successful weekend for one of the competition's most recognisable and inspirational teams, highlighting the unique blend of competition, connection and community that continues to draw players back to the event year after year.
Among those taking part were several familiar faces from the elite game, including former NSW Swifts representatives Bec Bulley, Ashlee Weir and Nardia Trevor, former Australian Diamonds Mo'onia Gerard and Susan Pettitt, and NSW Swifts Assistant Coach Jo Harten. NSW Swifts and England Roses star Helen Housby was also involved throughout the weekend, hosting Netball NSW's social media coverage and connecting with teams off the court.
From former internationals and professional athletes to lifelong grassroots participants, the courts were filled with stories of friendship, competition and connection, demonstrating the enduring role netball continues to play in people's lives long after representative and professional careers have ended.
Away from the courts, participants also enjoyed the popular Aware Super Recovery Party following Saturday's matches.
Players were treated to ice baths, recovery boots and rollers, mini massages and a yoga and stretch session led by a qualified instructor, while also enjoying food trucks, a bar and live music.
Netball NSW General Manager Competitions Stacy Harding said the record participation numbers reflected the strength of the Masters community across the state.
"To welcome a record 93 teams and approximately 900 participants across the Aware Super Social Masters and Masters State Titles was a fantastic result and a reflection of the strength of the Masters community across New South Wales.
"The weekend showcased everything that makes Masters netball special, from high-quality competition and lifelong friendships to the sense of belonging that keeps players connected to our sport for decades."
With championship honours decided and another successful Social Masters complete, the 2026 event once again demonstrated that netball is truly a sport for life.
Whether competing for a State Title, catching up with longtime teammates, or stepping onto the court for the first time in years, the weekend provided a powerful reminder that the connections forged through netball extend far beyond the final whistle.
As participation continues to grow, the Masters community will now look ahead to continued growth and more magical moments for years to come.
