NSW representatives Nicola Barge, Sophia Martinussen, Monika 'Otai and Skye Thompson will join an emerging squad of 12 players aged 23 and under for three international matches against Samoa's Invitational Team from 17–20 July at the Tuanaimato Multipurpose Sports Complex in Apia as part of Netball Australia's Ocean of Power Tour.
The tour will build on recent international opportunities for Australian pathway athletes, as part of Australian’s long-standing partnership with Pacific Netball Federations in delivering netball’s PacificAus Sports program.
Led by coaches Anita Keelan AM and Michelle Wilkins, the Australian pathway squad showcases emerging talent from across the country.
“This tour brings together an exciting group of athletes that have continued to grow and develop through the 2026 season,” Keelan said.
“International competition always challenges athletes. Our pathway team comes together and needs to quickly adapt to conditions and learn how to play together. We build and work to each other’s strengths and develop as a team.”
As well as competing in three matches, both teams will be participating in school visits, enhancing the profile of netball across Samoa.
“It’s an exciting and enjoyable experience to develop our talent within the pathway whilst growing the game of netball and strengthening ties with our Pacific neighbours,” Keelan said.
One of the selected players is goal shooter Nicola Barge, who made her SSN debut for the NSW Swifts during the 2026 season.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to represent Australia on another international tour. After learning so much from the Tala-Tutone Tour in Tonga last year, I’m looking forward to challenging myself again, continuing to grow my game and gaining valuable experience against quality opposition,” she said.
“Getting the opportunity to play towards the end of the Suncorp Super Netball season and perform in high pressure moments has taught me a lot and I’m excited to take those experiences into this international tour.”
Building on the recent Tala-Tutone Tour in Tonga and Rising Stars: 21/U Tour in Fiji, the tour to Samoa will provide a crucial preparation platform for athletes progressing through the pathway.
These events, supported by the Australian Government’s PacificAus Sports program, help strengthen regional ties through a shared love of sport, including netball, while furthering Netball Australia’s commitment to supporting opportunities for emerging athletes across the country.
