With the state sporting community looking to bounce back from a COVID-affected 2020 and 2021, there has never been a better time to get active.
But staying active alone isn’t enough. We also have to make sure our youngest participants are eating right – especially after playing Saturday netball.
That’s why Netball NSW and Swifts star Paige Hadley have teamed up with NSW Health again to promote Finish With The Right Stuff to the community.
The program supports junior sporting Clubs and Associations to provide and promote water and healthy food options to players and patrons.
Diane Pascoe, President of Charlestown Netball Association believes the program has been received positively by their community: “We thought this would fit really nicely with netball... I think they’ve actually enjoyed the variety of food that we’ve got and the healthier options.”
2022 will mark Hadley’s sixth year with the program, which is part of NSW Health’s comprehensive approach to supporting healthy lifestyles for children and their families.
Associations and Clubs who join the program receive free resources to promote water and encourage their players to run on the ‘right stuff’.
Over 75 Netball associations have participated in Finish With The Right Stuff to date, and have supported their clubs to make healthy options available.
Hadley said she was delighted to be on board and promote the initiative again.
“The old saying goes ‘you are what you eat’ and I know that nutrition is vital to everyone when they are playing sport,” she said.
“Finish With The Right Stuff gives our netball community the tools they need to ensure our youngest netballers are getting the healthy food and water they need after playing.
“It is also important that we build these habits of healthy eating early in life. I am really proud to support this NSW Health initiative, especially when you think of all the amazing work that NSW Health has done to support us during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Participating clubs receive free tailored support with program staff and merchandise to support healthy changes, and resources including a healthy food and drink policy whilst ensuring club profits are not affected.
“We are proud to be once again partnering with Netball NSW for the 2022 season," said Meredith Claremont, Acting Executive Director, Centre for Population Health.
"The Finish With the Right Stuff program has supported over 330 clubs and associations to encourage players and patrons to choose water as their drink of choice and support clubs to have healthy food and drinks available.”
