The DOOLEYS Metro League Grand Finals are underway and what a way for them to start with Division 3 and 4 bringing some epic battles last night.
The night kicked off with Division 4 leaving everything out on court. Baulkham Hills Shire managed to take down Illawarra District to claim third place in the competition whilst Northern Suburbs and Eastwood Ryde had a close fight for the top spot on Show Court.
The battle began with Eastwood Ryde claiming an early lead, however Northern Suburbs were not going to let their undefeated streak end here. They were able to turn the game around in the second half and sprint home to be declared the 2020 DOOLEYS Metro League Division 4 Champions.
The atmosphere reached another level in our Division 3 matches last night, with the crowd making it known that they fully supported their teams. Hills District took out the win in the third place play-off against Ku-ring-gai as they started out strong in the second quarter and were able to roll home with the win.
All eyes were on the Grand Final, however as Liverpool City and Hawkesbury were in a dead lock. The match saw intercept after intercept and players putting their bodies on the line to ensure they claimed the championship. With Liverpool City getting off to a shaky start, Hawkesbury had momentum and confidence on their side. Liverpool trailed for the first three quarters, however are one of the most resilient teams we have seen all season and were able to bring it back to even playing field in the final quarter resulting in a draw at full time. With an extra two seven-minute quarters having to be played, athletes demonstrated their tenacity and determination on court in a physical contest. Hawkesbury City managed to find an extra spark of energy towards the end and claimed the victory of the 2020 DOOLEYS Metro League Division 3 Champions.
