Netball NSW is delighted to announce that the organisation was successful in its application for funding from the NSW Office of Sport's Her Sport Her Way grant program.
This funding will be used for two very exciting and innovative projects:
Seeing is Believing – Role model and leadership program
Funding for the Seeing is Believing project will enable the Netball NSW Performance & Pathways team to deliver a series of workshops, resources and digital stories that will inspire athletes, umpires and coaches to aim high on, and off, the court.
Research highlights the importance of connection to role models. While we are encouraged by the impressive advances that have been made in media coverage of netball, particularly at Suncorp Super Netball level, there is no doubt that a lack of female role-models is a barrier to participation, progression and retention across all levels and roles of the game in NSW.
Seeing is Believing will hero the stories of athletes, coaches and umpires, particularly highlighting the many who defy stereotypes and will deliver workshops that instill confidence and teach girls and women to be effective leaders and role models.
Hands Up and Hands In - For Welcoming & Inclusive Netball Communities
Hands Up and Hands In for Welcoming and Inclusive Netball Communities will be a whole of sport project led by Netball NSW. The funding will allow Netball NSW to assist our Associations and Clubs to create more inclusive and sustainable opportunities for multicultural women and girls who wish to participate in netball.
Netball NSW will work directly with Associations and Clubs to create the environments needed to increase the numbers of multicultural women and girls participating in the game. A focus on learning and understanding throughout the project will aim to create sustainable changes and long-term participation.
Netball NSW will be partnering with the Australian International Sports Organisation to provide multicultural awareness workshops to Associations and Clubs involved and will connect netball communities with multicultural organisations across the state. This will also provide opportunities for the co-design of programs that meet communities' needs and reduce participation barriers.
Netball NSW will soon seek expressions of interest from Associations and Clubs that want to put their Hands Up and Hands In and commit to creating sustainable change that will lead to better netball environments for multicultural women and girls.
