For community netball clubs, fundraising can often feel like a constant challenge, balancing affordability for families while still investing in better facilities and experiences for players. That’s exactly the challenge Lane Cove Netball Club set out to tackle, and why they embraced the Hyundai Community Raffle through Netball NSW.
Last year, Lane Cove Netball Club came into the raffle later than most, but they didn’t let that slow them down. Instead, they leaned into what they do best: community connection and consistent communication.
That approach delivered real results. Lane Cove Netball Club finished as the NSW Hyundai Community Raffle Metro winner, raising $4,638 for their community.
More broadly, the impact of the raffle continues to grow, with clubs and associations across NSW raising a combined $66,000 through the 2025 Hyundai Netball Community Raffle to support grassroots netball. Importantly, funds raised is returned directly to participating clubs and associations, helping them reinvest back into their local netball communities.
Originally formed as a school-based club, Lane Cove has evolved into a thriving community organisation. Growth has been rapid, expanding from just over 20 teams to 28 this season across NetSetGo, juniors and seniors.
But with that growth came pressure. “We were using two courts at the local school, and it was becoming increasingly difficult,” Payne explained.
“One court had lights, one didn’t, and access was tricky. It just wasn’t sustainable for a growing club.”
In 2026, everything changed with the move to the indoor courts at Galuwa Recreation Centre.
“We jumped at the opportunity,” Payne said.
“For the first time, we could secure indoor courts and train rain, hail or shine.”
The impact has been immediate, with the club now able to bring almost all teams together on a consistent weekly training night.
“We’ve never had the luxury of being able to run multiple training sessions at once. It’s been a game changer.”
While the benefits have been significant, the move has also brought increased costs, with court hire now triple the price. As a result, fundraising has become more important than ever.
“Our aim is to keep netball as affordable as possible for families. We don’t want cost to become a barrier that causes players to drop out of the sport.” Payne said
That’s where initiatives like the Hyundai Community Raffle play a critical role. For Lane Cove Netball Club, it’s not just about raising money, it’s about protecting accessibility and supporting long-term growth.
This year, the club is building on what they learned with a more strategic and proactive approach.
That includes a strong presence at Lane Cove’s community precinct “The Canopy”, where the Hyundai Community Raffle Display Car will be on in clear view, as well as integrating ticket sales into their upcoming trivia night.
Digital engagement is also a key focus. “Last year we set up a Club WhatsApp channel, which we’re really trying to push,” Di said. “It’s just another way to communicate with our members and keep things front-of-mind.”
What sets Lane Cove Netball Club apart is that their approach goes beyond fundraising. It’s about building a stronger, more connected community.
“What I’m loving about the new Galawa facility is that they’re supporting us and we’re supporting them. “We promote them on our socials, and in return it becomes a hub for our families as well.”
Lane Cove’s story shows that you don’t need to be the biggest club to make a meaningful impact. Their success comes down to energy, intent and a willingness to try. “You’ve just got to be passionate and use the tools you have,” Di said. ““We’re all juggling full-time jobs alongside our volunteer roles, so it’s about finding smart, efficient ways to communicate and stay connected.”
Through the support of initiatives like the Hyundai Community Raffle, delivered in partnership with Netball NSW, clubs like Lane Cove are not only sustaining themselves but continuing to grow. More importantly, they are ensuring that community netball remains accessible, connected and thriving for the next generation.
