Netball NSW is delighted to announce that Janet Torney has joined the organisation’s Board of Directors for a two-year term.
An Appointed Director, Torney has an impressive track record as a director and senior executive across a broad range of industries, including sport.
A Non-executive Director of the Australian Cricketers’ Association and former Executive Member of the Northern Suburbs Netball Association, she also has a wealth of experience in corporate governance, strategy, risk management, and investments.
She holds or has held positions ranging from, but not limited to:
- Chair, Girl Guides Australia
- Chair, Perpetual Superannuation
- Chair, ANZ Staff Super
- Chair, Club Plus Superannuation
- Chair, Whitehelm Capital
- Non-executive Director, Fire Brigades Employees’ Credit Union
Day-to-day Torney oversees two consulting businesses - JT Consult and E L Williams. JT Consult provides mentoring services to mid-career executives and young women and provides strategic governance and risk management advice to financial and professional services sectors. E L Williams, a family business, provides bespoke engineering consulting and manufacturing services.
Netball NSW Chair Sallianne Faulkner congratulated Torney on her appointment.
“Janet is a firm believer in giving back to the communities which provided her with opportunities and has had a lifetime love and involvement in netball as a community netball player, umpire, and administrator,” Faulkner said.
“She has served on various professional Boards throughout her career including the Australian Cricketers Association, and has the necessary skillset to help us continue the growth of our game at all levels across the State.
“As well as the complexity of various industries, Janet is also deeply connected to netball. She knows the power of it at community level and is deeply passionate about seeing its elite game harness that power.
“I would like to take this opportunity to welcome her to Netball NSW and look forward to working with her.”
Regretfully, director Martha Lourey-Bird, will not be re-standing for election in March 2024 due to her increasing international commitments and overseas work as a sports and exercise scientist. She has tendered her resignation from the Board of Netball NSW effective 31 December 2023.
Faulkner thanked Lourey-Bird for her contribution.
“Martha’s skills are in demand worldwide and require her increasingly to travel and work abroad, but we are grateful for the input and impact that she has delivered for netball in NSW during her time on the Board and wish her all the very best.”
March 2024 Election Notices, including the notice of Director vacancies and call for nominations, will be made available in the coming weeks.
