For Sharni Matthews, netball is about far more than what happens on the court. As a dedicated coach and volunteer at Maryland Wallsend Netball Club, she has become a driving force behind creating an inclusive, supportive community where everyone feels welcome.
Sharni's commitment to grassroots netball extends across every corner of the club. From coaching the youngest players and mentoring volunteers to supporting fundraising, social media and community initiatives, she gives countless hours to ensuring the club continues to thrive.
One of Sharni's most inspiring contributions came when she organised a community netball round in support of a five-year-old local boy from Minmi undergoing cancer treatment. Thanks to her leadership, the Newcastle Netball Association was awash with yellow as clubs, players and families united to show their support, demonstrating the power of netball to bring communities together.
On the court, Sharni is passionate about helping young players build confidence, develop friendships and experience the joy of being part of a team. She believes every child deserves the opportunity to participate, learn and feel like they belong.
Sharni continues to give back with unwavering positivity and dedication. Her passion for making a difference has touched the lives of players, families and volunteers alike, making her a valued leader within Maryland Wallsend Netball Club and the wider netball community.
Through her selfless commitment and community spirit, Sharni truly embodies what it means to be a Netty Legend.
