The impact of grassroots investment in netball across New South Wales continues to grow, with the NSW Government’s 2025 Local Sport Grant Program highlighting the strength and reach of our community.
This year, more than $205,000 in NSW Government funding has been invested directly into netball organisations, supporting clubs, associations and volunteers who are the backbone of the sport. Delivered through the NSW Office of Sport, the program is part of a broader $4.49 million statewide initiative, helping fund meaningful, on-the-ground improvements that will benefit players of all ages and abilities.
Across metropolitan, regional and rural communities, netball clubs and associations are using this support to remove barriers and create more inclusive, accessible environments. From facility upgrades like court lighting in Kyogle and shelter improvements in Bathurst, to essential equipment investments at clubs such as Menai Hawks, Engadine Eagles and Mosman, these projects ensure participants have safe and welcoming places to play.
Equally important is the strong focus on people development. A significant number of funded projects centre around coaching, umpiring and leadership pathways. Initiatives such as Lane Cove’s “Equal Play” program, Kincumber’s youth leadership project and Bluejays’ development pathways are building the next generation of coaches, officials and community leaders, critical to the long-term sustainability of the sport.
The grants are also helping drive inclusion and participation, with programs designed to engage underrepresented groups and support access for all. From uniform support in West Wyalong to Pasifika community clinics delivered by NSW Tonga Netball, these initiatives reflect the diversity of the netball community and a shared commitment to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to be involved.
For regional associations like Blayney and Sapphire Coast, funding for travel and coaching clinics helps bridge the gap between country and city competition, giving athletes greater access to high-level opportunities and experiences.
“This funding is a significant boost for netball communities right across New South Wales,” said Lucy Sayers - Netball NSW General Manager of Governance, Integrity and Special Projects.
“Thanks to the support of the NSW Office of Sport, our clubs and associations are better equipped to grow participation, develop players, coaches and umpires, and create inclusive environments where everyone can be part of the game. This investment will have a lasting impact both on and off the court.”
The 2025 Local Sport Grant Program reinforces the vital role netball plays across New South Wales and provides tangible support to ensure the game continues to thrive at every level.
As these projects roll out over the coming months, the benefits will be felt not just on the court, but across entire communities, proving once again that when you invest in grassroots sport, the return goes far beyond the game.
