In true country spirit, Narrabri has shown once again that nothing can hold the community back — not even a flood. Just one week after the Namoi River swelled and floodwaters threatened the town, the Netball NSW Schools Cup returned to the courts, bringing together schools from across the region.
Despite damp conditions, the games went ahead with plenty of energy and enthusiasm. Netball is one of the few outdoor sports that continues in the rain, and the students embraced it, proving that resilience and teamwork go hand-in-hand both on and off the court.
A total of 14 teams from seven schools took part in the event, with Burren Junction Public School, Coonabarabran Public School, Narrabri Public School, St Joseph’s Wee Waa, St Philomena’s Moree, St Francis Xavier’s Narrabri and Wee Waa Public School proudly representing their communities.
For Narrabri, this was more than just a sporting competition. It was a celebration of coming together after challenge, a reminder of the joy of play, and another chapter in the town’s remarkable sporting story, with more than 110 Australian representatives and champions across 44 sports either born in the Shire or beginning their sporting careers here.
From its youngest juniors to its most decorated champions, Narrabri continues to prove why sport is woven into the heart of the community. And with the cheers and laughter echoing across the courts today, it was clear that the spirit of netball — and Narrabri — is as strong as ever.
