Netball Central was honoured to recently welcome dignitaries from eight nations who were in Sydney for the 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference which was hosted by the Parliament of New South Wales this year.
As part of their time in Sydney, the dignitaries were delighted to take part in a Parliamentary Netball Match which pitted the visitors against the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Netball.
NSW Swifts Maddy Proud, Allie Smith, Maddy Turner and Sharni Lambden were on hand to put both teams through their paces in what was a true representation of netball’s global appeal.
Over 20 million people play netball across the world and Netball NSW were proud to welcome Parliamentarians from Malawi, Tonga, Namibia, South Africa, Gibraltar, Canada, Nigeria and – of course – Australia.
A well as playing on Netball Central’s Show Court, the visitors also toured the venue’s facilities which will form a vital part of the 2027 Netball World Cup, as well as the neighbouring Ken Rosewall Arena, the home of both the Swifts and local rivals Giants Netball.
“As Netball NSW continues the countdown to the 2027 World Cup in Sydney, this event was a fantastic opportunity for the organisation to showcase netball in the state including the venues that will host the biggest event in the game’s calendar,” Tim Fava, Netball NSW Executive General Manager - Communities and Pathways said.
“The day was a celebration of the rich cultures, backgrounds and experiences that contribute to the game not just at home, but also abroad.”
