Netball NSW is delighted to announce that three members of our game's community have been recognised in the 2023 King's Birthday Honours List.
The organisation would like to congratulate Jill McIntosh AM, Marina Go AM, Jane Vincent OAM and Robert Fitzgerald OAM.
McIntosh may hail from Western Australia, and currently reside in the ACT, but her impact on the game in NSW has been hugely significant.
A former Australian Diamonds coach and All-Australian Umpire, McIntosh continues to work as mentor in the Netball NSW coaching pathway and has been made a Member of the Order of Australia.
Former Netball Australia Chair Go has also been made a Member of the Order of Australia for her service in a number of fields including sports administration.
She was the inaugural Chair of the Suncorp Super Netball Commission from 2021 to 2022, and Chair of NA for the same period.
North Sydney local Vincent was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for her services to the community through a range of organisations including netball.
A coach, umpire and founder of the Northern Sydney Junior Netball Club in 2005, she served as its President until 2009 and acted as a delegate to the Northern Suburbs Netball Association at the same time.
Another OAM recipient, Fitzgerald has been Vice-President of Blacktown City since 2017 and a member of their Exec Committee since 2012.
He was also president of the Eastern Creek Pioneers Netball Club from 1997 to 2019.
“Recipients have made substantial contributions and had a significant impact at the local, national or international level,” Governor-General the Honourable David Hurley said.
“Some are volunteers, others have had a remarkable impact in professional roles – many have done both. They are all inspiring and their service is valued by us all.
“While we can take a moment to acknowledge the significance of achieving gender parity in our Honours, it should not be a cause for pause.
“We reflect on our progress, and then recommit our efforts to ensure nominations reflect our diverse and strong community.”
