A Netball NSW Hall of Fame Inductee in 2008, Nola Green* is a name synonymous with netball in Newcastle across the state of New South Wales, and etched in history as an Australian shooter with poise and grace.
A member of Newcastle Netball Association for over 45 years, Nola started playing netball at St Aloysius Girl’s High School in Hamilton as she wanted to emulate the talents of her elder sister Lois, also an Australian representative in later years.
Nola was a natural at netball, and was a representative player for Newcastle Netball Association for over two decades from 1957 until 1978 and captained the Newcastle side during the first Australian Club Championship in 1977 and a tour of Singapore that same year.
Nola debuted for New South Wales in 1958 and played in state representative sides during the next 14 years, with roles as Captain in 1966, Vice-Captain in 1968 for a tour to New Guinea, and as Captain/Coach in 1969 for an international tour in Singapore.
In 1965, Nola was selected in the Australian Netball Team which was invited to tour New Zealand where the team won nine of their eleven matches.
After retiring from her representative playing days, Nola then gave her time to Newcastle Netball Association as an Executive Committee member for over 20 years. Nola received the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and was inducted into the Hunter region Sporting Hall of Fame in 2002.
A Life Member of Newcastle Netball Association, Nola’s contribution to the game was significant as a player, administrator and as a passionate netball advocate.
