Regarded as one of the greatest umpires to ever officiate the game, Sharon Kelly OAM is a veteran of over 100 international Test matches and plied her trade at five Commonwealth Games and four Netball World Cups.
Not only that she was at the forefront of officialdom in Australia’s National Netball League, umpiring every trans-Tasman ANZ Championship Grand Final before stepping down when the new era of Suncorp Super Netball arrived.
Despite hanging up her whistle, Kelly did not stop her involvement in netball. She worked at Netball NSW as a mentor for the next generation of umpires coming through the system, while in 2021 she was named Netball Australia’s Performance Umpiring Head Coach.
In a record that is likely to never be matched, she was named the Australian Umpire of the Year a phenomenal 13 times!
She was inducted into the Netball NSW Hall of Fame in 2020.
