In the long and proud history of the Swifts, Vanessa Ware was someone who stood out among her peers as one of the most consistent and valued athletes to ever wear the Yellow and Red Dresses of the Foundation Club.
A Sutherland Shire junior who represented NSW at 17U, 19U, 21U and Opens levels, she made her elite debut with the Swifts at just 16 years of age.
A dynamic and versatile wing attack, Vanessa played much of her professional Club career alongside good friend Kimberlee Green OAM.
In total she played 40 games for the Sydney Swifts before going on to play another 67 games after the Club rebranded as the NSW Swifts in 2008.
In addition to her first Premiership success in 2004, she was part of the Swifts’ most successful era when the Club claimed an unrivalled threepeat by winning the final two Commonwealth Bank Trophy titles in 2006 and 2007, and the inaugural ANZ Championship in 2008.
In 2012 Vanessa celebrated her 10th consecutive season at the Swifts and went on to become a proud Club Centurion with her name now taking pride of place in the stands among her fellow Centurions at every Swifts home game at both Ken Rosewall Arena and Qudos Bank Arena.
At international level Vanessa represented Australia at 19U and 21U level and she was part of the Australian Diamonds squad in 2008 on the back of a stellar Premiership-winning campaign with the Swifts.
In 2011 she was also part of the Fast5 Australian team which claimed Bronze at the World Netball Series in Liverpool, England.
One of the finest netballers to ever come out of NSW, it was an honour to induct Vanessa Ware into the Netball NSW Hall of Fame in 2023.
