Wendy Archer AM’s illustrious career in netball exemplifies dedication, leadership, and transformative influence.
Her journey began as a club player with the Sutherland Shire and Port Stephens Netball Associations, before her ascent to netball administration.
As a National A Badged Umpire and a valued member of the Netball NSW Badging Panel, Wendy's early contributions set a high standard for officiating excellence. Her leadership capabilities were first recognised in 1999 when she was elected to the Netball NSW Board.
Wendy's tenure as Vice-President from 1999 to 2003 was marked by her commitment to modernizing governance practices, which she continued as President from 2004 to 2018.
Under Wendy's stewardship, Netball NSW experienced significant advancements. She championed the implementation of a modern constitution, leading to more effective governance. Wendy was also instrumental in negotiating funding from the NSW Government for the construction of Netball Central in Sydney Olympic Park, overseeing its development from inception to the official opening in 2015.
Her visionary approach extended to player development, with the introduction of formal pathways at the State level and advocacy for the recognition of bench officials.
Her tenure saw the continued growth of the Swifts (rebranded from Sydney Swifts to NSW Swifts in 2008) in the ANZ Championship before the introduction of GIANTS Netball – alongside the Swifts – when Suncorp Super Netball replaced the trans-Tasman competition in 2017.
Wendy's contributions have been recognised with prestigious honors, including the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2005.
Her leadership and service have set a benchmark in netball administration, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the sport.
As of November 2024 she is the current Chair of the Netball NSW Recognition Reference Panel and a Director of Netball Australia, where she served as Chair from October 2022 to May 2004.
