The NSW Government today announced $1.5 million funding for a Legacy Program to support the 2027 Netball World Cup as well as a new Netball Infrastructure Strategy.
The Legacy Program will invest $1 million on participation initiatives, training and development of Netball NSW staff and volunteers as well as programs to promote the sport ahead of the World Cup.
The $500,000 Netball Infrastructure Strategy will include planning and studies to support Netball NSW’s growth plans for the sport.
The 2027 Netball World Cup will be held in Sydney and will feature the world’s top 16 teams competing across 60 games with the event to deliver an estimated $31 million boost to the NSW visitor economy.
Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:
“Netball is the number one female participation sport in Australia with NSW accounting for more than a quarter of all participants nationally.
The 2027 Netball World Cup will see the world’s best netballers converge on Sydney to compete for the title of world champions.
But the NSW Government doesn’t just want to host the tournament, we want it to leave a legacy for future generations of netballers.
The 2027 Netball World Cup Legacy Program will support netball at all levels through participation initiatives, leadership and development programs as well as programs to raise awareness and help grow the sport.
The Netball Infrastructure Strategy will provide a roadmap to enable netballers of all ages and abilities to participate in modern, safe and accessible facilities.
Today is an exciting milestone ahead of the 2027 Netball World Cup and I can’t wait to see the Diamonds defend their world title in Sydney.”
