The 2020 Netball NSW Annual General Meeting took on a different look today with delegates attending digitally for the first time in the organisation's history.
With the nation still combating the Covid19 pandemic, the NSW netball community was quick to embrace the innovation with delegates logging in from every part of the state.
Netball NSW President Louise Sullivan said the wonderful digital turnout was a testament to the game's collective spirit in uncertain times:
"Netball has never had it easy. It has always had to blaze its own trail and done so through the innovation and passionate work ethic of its huge workforce. When times have been hard, netball has always pulled together. This AGM is evidence of that."
Today saw incumbent Board Member Vincent De Luca OAM re-elected to the Netball NSW Board of Directors for another three years, while the organisation also welcomed a new Board Member in Catherine Matthews.
Matthews, who previously served on the Board of GWS Giants, has a strong background in marketing and digital transformation projects.
Incumbent Board Member Diana Fraser did not stand for another term. Netball NSW would like to take this opportunity to thank Diana for her contribution to the organisation over the past two years.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP - Ruth Havrlant
We are delighted to announce that Life Membership has been awarded to Ruth Havrlant (Ku-Ring-Gai).
A Board Member of Netball NSW since 2001, Ruth has made an outstanding contribution to the game at state, national and international levels.
She has been instrumental in widening the base and increasing the skill level of Umpires and Bench Officials throughout NSW.
Ruth is currently a national timer and scorer at various state national and international competitions, including but not limited to the Netball World Cup, International Tests, Suncorp Super Netball, the Australian National League and Netball NSW Competitions.
WARATAH SERVICE AWARD - Ellen Monaghan
The Netball NSW Waratah Service Award is a prestigious honour, and bestowed to an individual who displays distinguished service to Netball NSW in the capacity of an organisational or operational volunteer for at least ten years.
Ellen Monaghan (Newcastle Netball Association) is a very worthy Award winner. A stalwart of the game in the Newcastle region, Ellen has always had a passion for ensuring people with disabilities are given fair representation in sport too.
She was a foundation member of New South Wales' Netball Association's People With a Disability committee in 1988 and served on the committee to 2003. More recently Ellen has been team manager of the NSW Marie Little OAM Shield team, a position she has held continuously since 2013. The NSW side has won four National Championships since 2015, with Ellen playing a major role in each of them.
