Netball NSW is thrilled to announce South West Mounties Magic as the new team to join its flagship competition, the Premier League.
Excitingly, this sees both of the Opens and Under 23s Divisions return to a 10-team competition for Season 2024.
Led by Liverpool City Netball Association and Mounties Care (part of the Mounties Group), the introduction of the new team creates an important new pathway for athletes, coaches and officials in the strategically important South West corridor of the Sydney region.
The addition of South West Mounties Magic reinforces Netball NSW's commitment to expanding the reach of Premier League into key markets to support opportunity and growth.
"We are delighted to welcome South West Mounties Magic to the Premier League family," Tracey Scott, CEO of Netball NSW, said.
"Their application highlighted a dedication to fostering local talent and providing a platform for athletes and coaches to thrive, as well as connecting with the South West Sydney community to grow awareness for all elements of netball.
“We believe that their participation will add a new dimension to the competition and contribute to the overall enhancement of netball in our state."
Dale Hunt, Group CEO of Mounties Group said “Mounties Group is excited to see a pathway created by Netball NSW for a child from south west Sydney to grow from under 6 through to the elite levels of Netball and achieve their passion and dreams in their chosen sport. Igniting the magic in the community of Southwest Sydney will change many lives.”.
The selection process commenced with a public expression of interest, which resulted in a number high-quality submissions.
Netball NSW acknowledges the dedication and commitment displayed by all applicants during the selection process and remains focused on creating a dynamic and competitive platform for players, coaches, officials and administrators to move through the pathway, inspiring our grassroots community and driving future growth of the sport.
The Premier league, which started in 2016, is Netball NSW’s flagship high-performance competition, providing an elite environment from which many NSW Swifts and GIANTS Netball athletes, State Team coaches and national officials have emerged.
This year’s Premier League Grand Finals took place at Ken Rosewall Arena with the Manly Warringah Sapphires (Opens) and GWS Fury (U23s) taking out the respective titles.
