After the biggest and best Origin Energy Premier League competition to date, we reached out to our 2022 Awards Winners to see what the past season has meant to them.
Here we chat to a recipient of the Nance Kenny OAM Medal.
Nance Kenny OAM served Netball NSW in the capacity of Treasurer over a long period of time, held a Life Membership of the organisation and is an inductee in the Hall of Fame.
The Medal is presented to a player (or players) in the Netball NSW Premier League Opens Division who has displayed consistent outstanding performances throughout the season.
In 2022 one of the winners was Sutherland Stingrays and NSW Swifts Training Partner Lili Gorman-Brown, who also became Swift #102 when the Swifts played the Melbourne Vixens in Round 3 of Suncorp Super Netball.
Below she tells us what the Award means to her.
- What does this award mean to you?
I am honoured to receive this award and I would like to express my appreciation to everyone involved in running the Netball NSW Premier League competition.
It was so good to be back on the court each week playing in such a strong competition, developing my skills alongside my teammates. To me the Nance Kenny OAM award is a reflection of all the support, coaching and mentoring I have received along my netball journey and I’m grateful for everyone’s support.
I look forward to continuing to grow in the 2023 season ahead.
- Why do you enjoy what you do?
I enjoy challenging myself, setting goals and most of all I love competing against other teams and playing with my friends.
- What is your favourite memory in your time in Netball?
My favourite memory would have to be training in the Swifts environment as a Training Partner as it is such a professional, positive and rewarding environment to be in.
- How has Premier League aided your journey?
Apart from Suncorp Super Netball, the NSW Premier League competition is the strongest weekly competition in Australia. Each week you get to play against some of the best netballers in NSW.
- What advice would you give to other athletes on the pathway?
Make sure you have fun, cherish the friendships, set your own goals, train hard and embrace any opportunity you are given.
