In the lead up to this weekend’s Regional League we throw the spotlight on two associations from the West Central West Region: Blayney and District Netball Association and Parkes and District Netball Association.
The Blayney Team is coached by Sharna Kinghorne and is an amalgamation of the U17 and U15 State teams from last year and have entered Regional League to get the high quality court time needed in the lead up to Senior State Titles.
“It’s an opportunity for us to come up against teams we may not ordinarily see during our regional carnival circuit” says coach Sharna Kinghorne.
Sharna added that she is wanting the girls to have fun and learn how to work as a team. The team goals are to improve their ability to work together, improve their skill level, read each other’s play to work as one team and hopefully come away with a few wins!
Parkes Netball Association a small association and their aim is to support and encourage as many players as possible to participate in the sport they love. They have an extremely young squad and it will be the first time playing in Regional League for many of them. Their team goals are to put into practice what they have been working on at training and utilise the game time to focus on improvements and skills required moving forward in the season.
Coach Christine Watson appreciates the learning and experience that Regional League brings without having to travel to metropolitan areas to gain that.
“Our team wouldn’t get to play together against such a high standard that regional league offers in our local competition on a weekly basis” says Christine
“As a coach I am looking forward to watching other coaches in action and gaining more experience in coaching at a higher standard than usual, utilising the game time to focus on improvements and skills required moving forward in the season”
Regional League is taking place this weekend 23 – 24 March across seven different venues across NSW.
