Netball NSW Foundation is proud to announce its latest Impact Partnership with FosterCare Sports - a volunteer-led charity dedicated to helping children and young people in foster and out-of-home care access local community sport.
Together, the Foundation and FosterCare Sports are collaborating to create more opportunities for children in care to experience the many benefits of netball — including confidence, connection, teamwork and a sense of belonging in their local community.
Community sport plays an important role in helping young people build friendships, develop life skills and feel supported in the long term through positive social connections.
Through this partnership, the Foundation and FosterCare Sports aim to make it easier for children and young people in out-of-home care to join a local netball team.
Through strategic collaboration, FosterCare Sports work closely with carers and support networks to understand each child’s interests, needs and location. They then connect with Netball NSW, local associations and clubs to identify suitable opportunities to support player placement and co-fund player registration and starter equipment to remove financial pressures on families for their children to get started and stay in the game.
Head of Netball NSW Foundation, Janyne Hogan said the partnership reflects the Foundation’s commitment to ensuring all young people have the opportunity to experience the positive impacts of netball, in their local community.
“Every child deserves to feel connected, supported and included in their local community. Through this partnership, we can remove some of the barriers that can prevent children in out-of-home care from participating in sport and help more children experience the confidence, friendships and sense of belonging that netball can provide.”
FosterCare Sports Founder, Matthew Smith said the collaboration would create meaningful opportunities for children and young people in care to feel welcomed and supported through sport.
“Sport has the power to change lives, particularly for children who may be experiencing significant challenges and transition in their lives. Partnering with Netball NSW Foundation allows us to connect more children with safe, supportive and inclusive sporting environments where they can build confidence, relationships and positive community connections.”
