The NSW Swifts today announced that Briony Akle’s nine-year stint as Head Coach will come to an end at the completion of her current contract in September.
Few individuals have shaped the Club's history as profoundly as Akle. Across her career as both a player and coach, she has contributed to four Premierships, including two as Head Coach, while also leading the Swifts to a minor Premiership and a further Grand Final appearance.
Her impact extends well beyond results.
Over her nine seasons as Head Coach, Akle has played a pivotal role in developing elite athletes, nurturing emerging talent and strengthening the connection between the club's proud history and its future.
Akle's influence has also been felt beyond the court. A passionate ambassador for the club, she has forged strong relationships with Members, supporters, partners and the broader netball community throughout her time with the Swifts.
Netball NSW Chief Executive Officer Tracey Scott paid tribute to Akle's remarkable contribution.
"Briony has led the Swifts with professionalism, passion and a genuine commitment to our athletes, staff, Members and supporters," Scott said.
"Her contribution to this club, both as a player and coach, has been exceptional. She leaves a lasting legacy and will always be an important part of the NSW Swifts story. The culture, standards and passion Briony has instilled within the organisation will continue to shape the Swifts for years to come."
The Club is well advanced in planning for who will lead the next phase of its on-court success and will announce its Head Coach for the 2027 season in due course.
While attention will soon turn to the future, today is an opportunity to recognise the extraordinary impact Akle has had on the Swifts over many years.
On behalf of the Board, players, staff, Members and supporters, the NSW Swifts extends its sincere thanks to Briony for her outstanding contribution to the club. Her influence will continue to be felt for years to come, and she will always hold a special place in the history of the NSW Swifts.
The entire Swifts family wishes Briony every success in the next chapter of her career.
