Netball NSW’s grassroots community came together across the weekend for a series of highly successful Train the Trainer sessions, designed to equip coaches, coordinators and volunteers with the tools to confidently deliver the refreshed NetSetGo program in 2026.
Held at Hills District, Sutherland Shire, Northern Suburbs and Mt Druitt Associations, the sessions focused on upskilling local deliverers in the updated NetSetGo session plans and delivery expectations, while encouraging them to think outside the box when creating fun, engaging experiences for young participants.
Across the four locations, 73 coaches registered, with even more turning up on the day, a strong show of commitment from the grassroots network:
The workshops explored refreshed NetSetGo session plans and provided practical tips and tricks to help Associations make their programs more enjoyable and engaging — not only for participants, but for coaches as well. Central to the discussions was embedding the Netty Way values into every session, ensuring the program continues to foster positive experiences, connection and a lifelong love of the game.
A special highlight of the weekend was the session delivered by newly appointed Netball NSW Community Advisor, Jo Harten, at the Bi-Centennial Netball Courts in Willoughby.
“NetSetGo is often a child’s first experience of netball, so it’s crucial we support coaches to make those sessions positive, inclusive and enjoyable.” Said Harten. “The engagement and feedback across all locations showed how valuable these sessions were.”
Jo’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Netball NSW. In the initial phase of her role, she will support key participation and retention initiatives while serving as a visible ambassador across Associations, clubs and corporate environments. Jo will bring her international playing experience and passion for the sport directly to grassroots netball.
With strong attendance numbers, overwhelmingly positive feedback and the added inspiration of one of the sport’s most respected figures now embedded in the community space, the 2026 Train the Trainer series has set a powerful tone for the NetSetGo season ahead.
