Kylie Tzavaras of the Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association was named the Dot McHugh OAM Administrator of the Year at the Netball NSW High Tea celebration in Sydney Olympic Park last weekend.
Introduced in 2019, the Award recognises the tireless efforts of an individual who has gone above and beyond at administrative level to enhance the game of netball in their local area.
Named after Netball NSW Hall of Fame inductee Dot McHugh, Tzavaras is the second recipient of the award.
On receiving it, Tzavaras commented on how challenging 2020 had been when it came to getting the netball season up and running at Association level amid the ongoing COVID19 pandemic.
"It was very difficult," she reflected. "We didn't even know until the week of our start that we could actually start.
"It was a lot of work by a lot of people, who put in a lot of time and effort."
Jokingly she added: "It took a lot of harassment of local members [of Parliament] and the poor staff at Netball NSW and lots of phone calls."
Thankfully the wonders of the modern age meant keeping members of Baulkham Hills netball in the loop was a relatively easy task.
"Social media was our godsend, we would update our members on a weekly basis in the beginning and then bi-weekly after... social media was our best friend."
Tzavaras said she was slightly "mortified" but appreciative to receive the award, emphasising the enjoyment she got from the game.
"We don't do this for any reward, we do it because we love netball," she added.
"We have a passion for it and I'm truly honoured."
