While COVID-19 meant a lot of umpires had to freshen up their skills remotely in 2020, the outlook is better this year.
And the learning has already commenced with 31 On-Court A-Badged umpires congregating at Netball Central in Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday 27 February for a Development Camp.
Facilitated by Netball NSW Umpire Coach Sharon Kelly, there was wealth of knowledge presented throughout the day by top officials.
Helen George was on hand to cover Detail in Contact while Tara Warner looked after Polishing of Skills. They were joined by Stacey Campton who presented on Diversity in Netball and Lauren Hill who covered Individual Performance Plans.
Strength & Conditioning expert Ranell Hobson also presented an introduction to a five-week pre-season team fitness program.
Participant Monique O’Callaghan said: "It was great to finally come together as a unified group after so much time apart, and having the opportunity to share with and learn from those who came before us and from one another definitely provided us all with the foundation for a successful 2021 season."
While fellow participant Kirsten Gossip said: "A-Camp is such a great day for us to develop individually as NSW umpires and as a group.
"Learning the importance of the acknowledgment from a First Nations woman was a key takeaway for me."
Kylie Mulcare added: "National A Camp was a great day to gather as a cohort to further develop our skills through diverse, engaging and educational content. Thank you Netball NSW for providing this opportunity to support growth on our umpiring journeys."
