The 2024 Netball NSW Awards will be a very special night for Wendy Archer AM and Kimberlee Green OAM who are set to be inducted into the Netball NSW Hall of Fame.
Through the Hall of Fame, Netball NSW recognises the champions of the game, those who personify the spirit, excellence and skill required to reach the pinnacle of the sport.
These individuals and collectives are considered to be the “best of the best”; those who have given to the game beyond expectation, and who through their dedication and ability have achieved at the highest level.
Wendy Archer AM
Wendy’s illustrious career in netball exemplifies dedication, leadership, and transformative influence.
Her journey began as a club player with the Sutherland Shire and Port Stephens Netball Associations, before her ascent to netball administration.
As a National "A" Badged Umpire and a valued member of the Netball NSW Badging Panel, Wendy's early contributions set a high standard for officiating excellence. Her leadership capabilities were first recognised in 1999 when she was elected to the Netball NSW Board. Wendy's tenure as Vice-President from 1999 to 2003 was marked by her commitment to modernizing governance practices, which she continued as President from 2004 to 2018.
Under Wendy's stewardship, Netball NSW experienced significant advancements. She championed the implementation of a modern constitution, leading to more effective governance. Wendy was instrumental in negotiating funding from the NSW Government for the construction of Netball Central, overseeing its development from inception to the official opening nearly ten years ago.
Her visionary approach extended to player development, with the introduction of formal pathways at the State level and advocacy for the recognition of bench officials. Wendy's tenure saw the emergence of the Sydney Swifts and Hunter Jaegers in the ANZ Championship and, more recently, the inclusion of GIANTS Netball in the SSN Competition, reflecting her enduring commitment to the sport's growth.
Wendy's contributions have been recognised with prestigious honors, including the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2005. Her leadership and service have set a benchmark in netball administration, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the sport.
As the current Chair of the Netball NSW Recognition Reference Panel and a director of Netball Australia, Wendy Archer continues to influence the sport positively. Her exemplary service and transformative impact make her a deserving inductee into the Netball NSW Hall of Fame, General Division.
Kimberlee Green OAM
Kimberlee’s remarkable netball career is a testament to exceptional talent, dedication, and leadership.
Beginning her journey with St. Patrick’s in the Sutherland Shire, Kimberlee's (Kim) potential was evident early on as she represented Sutherland in State Age and State League. At just 16, she joined the Sydney Swifts, quickly showcasing a profound understanding of the game, earning her reputation as a dominant and relentless mid-court player.
Kim’s career is distinguished by her remarkable consistency and loyalty, spending her entire professional journey within New South Wales at both the NSW Swifts and GIANTS Netball.
She navigated the Netball NSW pathway from underage teams to the State Opens team, making a significant impact in both domestic and international arenas.
Her tenure with the Sydney Swifts was particularly notable, with her contributions spanning the Commonwealth Bank Trophy and ANZ Championships. Kim was a key player in the Swifts' championship victories in 2006 and 2008. Her leadership qualities shone brightly when she captained the NSW Swifts from 2012 to 2014, culminating in a triumphant period for the team.
Kim's influence extended to the newly formed Suncorp Super Netball competition, where she was the inaugural captain of GIANTS Netball from 2017 to 2019, guiding them with skill and authority.
On the international stage, Kim earned 74 caps for the Australian Diamonds. Her illustrious achievements include winning gold at the 2011 World Championship and the 2014 Commonwealth Games, silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, and leading the team as vice-captain in 2013 and 2014. Her contribution to the Australian Fastnet team and her role in securing victories across various series and championships underscore her exceptional career.
Kim’s excellence on and off the court has been recognized with numerous awards, including being named the NSW Swifts Players’ Player in 2010, multiple NSW Swifts Members’ Player of the Year titles from 2011 to 2014, and the ANZ Championship joint Most Valuable Player in 2014. Her dedication was further honored with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2022.
Kim’s career embodies excellence, leadership, and a profound impact on the sport of netball. Her induction into the Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to a player whose legacy continues to inspire and influence the game.
