NSW started their National Netball Championships campaign campaign strongly with four wins across the 19s and 17s divsions on Day 1 in Hobart.
17U Round 1: NSW 35 QLD 27
The NSW athletes showed impressive composure and fight to come back strongly after Queensland hit the court firing. Queensland had a height advantage at both ends, but relentless and clever defence matched with disciplined control saw NSW wrestle back the game.
19U Round 1: NSW 37 WA 26
A strong start for the 19U team who were playing for the first time with a new line up after their star shooter Sophie Fawns was contracted to join the NSW Swifts last week. For Newcastle athlete Millie Tonkin, Sophie's elevation meant a well deserved opportunity to represent NSW at her first Nationals.
17U Round 2: NSW 42 WA 33
The young NSW athletes played with growing confidence in Game 2, led by impressive shooting from Grace Whyte, a string of intercepts from Eugenie Little and smart play in the middle from Hope White. Every time NSW pulled away, WA clawed back the gap and it was really only in the final quarter that the persistent full court pressure wore down the team from the West.
19U Round 2: NSW 36 QLD 27
The NSW 19U team started strongly against Queensland. Captain and Swifts Training Partner Audrey Little led by example in an impressive display of controlled attack and fierce defence. Erin O’Brien was imposing in GD, and together with her GIANTS training partner Charli Fidler they shut down all efforts for a Queensland comeback.
