Netball NSW is delighted to announce that Michelle Champ has been appointed to the organisation's Board of Directors.
Champ, who has a strong background in senior financial management and strategy across a 25-year career, joins as an Appointed Director and will chair Netball NSW's Audit & Risk Committee.
She is currently the Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of the Greengate Group and previously worked for the Bauer Media Group as General Manager of Finance across Australia and New Zealand. Before that she served as Group Finance Manager at ACP Magazines.
Champ said she was excited to join Netball NSW and aid the continued growth of the game.
"I am very passionate about being given the opportunity to help grow our diverse and inclusive sport, and increase its appeal to wider parts of the community while also dealing with the inevitable challenges of competition from other sporting codes," she said.
"I have been a passionate netball lover since a young age and with two teenage daughters I have held roles at a club level within the Northern Suburbs Netball Association.
"Netball and women’s sport in general is at a point where the ability to shape the future is exciting. It is an evolving landscape and, with its rich history and strong story to tell, I am excited to play a part in this.
"I’m known for my ability to effectively articulate complex financial concepts to a range of stakeholders, as well as having a proven track record of running capital-raising processes. I look forward to working with Netball NSW to ensure both the organisation and the netball community can continue to flourish."
Champ will be joined on the Audit & Risk Committee by Doug MacColl, who comes on board as an Independent Member.
Until recently serving as treasurer of the Hills District Netball Association, MacColl is a chartered accountant and senior executive with over 25 years of experience in finance, administration and governance.
Netball NSW President Louise Sullivan said both appointments were important as the organisation, and game, looked to overcome the challenges brought about by COVID-19 outbreaks in Greater Sydney.
"At this time we need strong governance and commercial acumen to provide the ability to run forecast scenarios which can help us navigate changing landscapes, particularly through the current COVID environment," she said.
"Michelle's track record in senior financial leadership speaks for itself and she has brilliant vision when it comes to strategy, which will be vital as we look to make our business even more sustainable and robust.
"As well as her impressive resume, Michelle also has a life-long connection to netball so she will be able to bring her expertise to both the grassroots and high performance areas of our game.
"I would also like to congratulate Doug on his appointment to the Audit & Risk Committee. Having played representative sport himself and with a deep background in grassroots netball he understands both the challenges and opportunities we face as a sport."
Myles Baron-Hay has retired from the Board after serving as an Appointed Director since 2017.
Sullivan thanked Baron-Hay for his service:
“Myles has brought to netball his extensive experience in both professional sports administration and the commercial business world during a period of great change.
"Myles’ strategic guidance during our transition to the Suncorp Super Netball league, the establishment of GIANTS Netball and the shift to Ken Rosewall Arena has been invaluable. Always a proud netball Dad, we know Myles won’t be far from the courts.”
