As you would be well aware, today – 1 June – was the nominated date for the next formal update from Netball NSW on the status of the 2020 season.
As many will have seen, this morning NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian made the following statement on 2GB radio:
“There's two things that we want to say something about in the near future, and that's children's community sport, but also gyms and dance studios and the like. You'll have a clear indication of where your industry is going in the very near future."
In light of this pending announcement, Netball NSW has decided to hold off sending a full update today, given it is highly likely that it would be out-of-date and requiring substantial amendment within days. We want to make sure that the information we pass on is accurate and relevant as well as avoiding any possible confusion.
Should there be no further information from the State Government regarding community sport by Thursday, Netball NSW will send a full communication prior to the long weekend.
It was our preference to have more detailed information available earlier. In recent weeks Netball NSW have worked to provide the State Government with guidance and proposals on a safe return to community netball. We have also been heavily engaged with our colleagues in other sporting codes lobbying the government for greater clarity and certainty.
For some examples of the most recent advocacy and media exposure our efforts have created see the following:

It is to be hoped that an announcement with details on how and when we will be back on the court is now extremely close. We are grateful for your ongoing patience and support and look forward to sharing some good news with you around all of our programs and competitions in coming days.
