It was quite the weekend for Illawarra District Netball Association after their teams dominated two out of three divisions of the South Coast’s Regional League finals.
Located at the brand new Shoalhaven Indoor Centre, nineteen teams over the three divisions took part in the finals of the Regional League with Netball NSW’s South Coast Regional Development Manager, Maddie Howard, calling the weekend a success.
“Each team gave it their all and showed great sportsmanship. Overall the weekend was a great success.”
In the 15’s division, Illawarra 14s were undefeated over each round and beat Shoalhaven 26 -10 in the semi finals. Queanbeyan also showed great power throughout each round but couldn’t size up to Illawarra 14s.
Illawarra 14s and Queanbeyan came face to face in the 15’s division final but it was the former who came out victorious, defeating their rivals in a close match, 25-20.
All eyes were on the Southern Highlands as they took control of the 17’s division. However, a 16-all draw with Eurobodalla would shake them up heading into the finals. They then were back up against Eurobodalla in the semi finals only to gain their confidence back with an 18 – 11 win and a ticket into the final against Goulburn.
The Southern Highlands ended up being too good for Goulburn and walked away with a 28-8 victory becoming the 17’s division winners.
Division 1 was a tight competition with the top four fighting it out for a spot in the final. Illawarra 17s would finish on top of the ladder with Illawarra Opens and Shoalhaven Opens both trailing behind by a draw each.
In the semis, Illawarra Opens defeated Illawarra 17s in a close 19-17 match, which then saw the 17s side face off against Shoalhaven Opens in the preliminary finals.
Illawarra 17s proved too strong with a 39-34 win, meaning they would again face their Opens counterparts in the decider.
The Opens side came out on top with a 24-14 victory in that game and were crowned Div 1 winners.
