Netball NSW has teamed up with NETFIT Netball to provide a Lockdown Challenge Program for members of the 12 Academies of Sport's netball programs.
The Program comes about after COVID-19 restrictions led to the cancellation of the Academy Challenge that was scheduled to held in Orange in September.
The Challenge will be led by former NSW Swifts & GIANTS alumni Sarah Wall and Taylah Davies. Wall is the founder of NETFIT while Davies is the company’s state manager in NSW.
“We know how tough it has been on all NSW netballers, and we were looking for a fun solution to help them remain engaged with the sport, their friends and teammates,” Margaret Hamley, General Manager of Performance & Pathways at Netball NSW, said.
“It is such an important period in these young athletes lives, both on and off the court, and we wanted them to know that we care for them and are here to support.”
The Lockdown Challenge concept that NETFIT has successfully integrated through partnerships with schools around Australia has been adapted to meet the performance needs of Netball NSW’s Pathway Program.
Wall and Davies will lead a personalised training and skills programs with take-home support and session plans from the NETFIT App ensuring that Academy of Sport athletes continue their growth in lockdown.
“The challenge concept provides that extra bit of spark for the girls, who have missed the opportunity to get on court competitively with their teammates this season,” Davies added.
“We’re aiming to make these sessions challenging, and in-line with their performance programs, as well as fun and engaging, giving the girls the chance to connect with like-minded netballers from around the state.”
The first session was held last week, the intensity was high and the feedback from athletes and coaches was that they cannot wait for the next two sessions.
