The 2024 South Coast Regional League took place over the weekend at the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre, with 17 teams from around the South Coast region competing across four divisions.
Division 4
In the Division 4, the round competition was dominated by the Eurobodalla 17s, who only lost one game across rounds and going top of the division, closely followed Queanbeyan 3, Sapphire Coast and the Wollondilly 17s to round out the top 4.
The first Division 4 semi-final saw the Eurobodalla 17s take on the Wollondilly 17s team for a place in the grand final. The Wollondilly 17s fought hard throughout the whole game but the Eurobodalla 17s proved too strong on the day to win 28-7. In second Division 4 semi final, Queanbeyan 3 took on the Sapphire Coast 17s. Both teams traded goal in the first half with the Queanbeyan 3 leading by 2 goals at the half time break. But in the second half, the Sapphire Coast 17s fought hard, but the Queanbeyan 3 were just too strong on the day, winning the second semi final 22-19.
In the Division 4 grand final between the Eurobodalla 17s and Queanbeyan 3. Queanbeyan 3 started off well against to take the lead in the early stages of the first. However, the Eurobodalla 17s fought back to level the scores at the half time break. In the second half the game really ebbed and followed. But just when grand final looked like going into extra time, some strong defense and accurate shooting from Eurobodalla 17s saw them take victory over Queanbeyan 3 14-12.
Division 3
In Division 3, the round games were dominated by the Ulladulla & District Opens, going undefeated and top of the table followed by Eurobodalla Opens and Sapphire Coast Opens and the Kiama 17s rounding out the top 4.
The first Division 3 semi final saw the Ulladulla and Districts opens take on the Kiama 17s for a place in the grand finale. Kiama 17s fought incredibly hard but Ulladulla and Districts Opens continued their form from the rounds, comfortably winning 39-15. The second semi-final saw the Eurobodalla Opens take on the Sapphire Coast Opens. Sapphire Coast fought hard but Eurobodalla Opens were too strong wining 20-11.
In the Division 3 grand final, Ulladulla and Districts Opens took on the Eurobodalla Opens. In the first half both teams traded goal for goal with Ulladulla taking a 1 goal lead into the half time break. In the second half, Ulladulla took all the momentum with accurate shooting and great defense to take the win, 27-16
Division 2
Division 2 saw some great battles and close games, but it was the Southern Highlands 17s team finishing the minor rounds on top with the Illawarra Opens 2, Queanbeyan 2 and the Kiama Opens rounding out the top four teams heading to the finals series.
The first of the semi finals saw the Southern Highlands 17s take on the Kiama Opens. The Southern Highlands 17s were far too strong across all areas winning 35-13. The second semi-final was between Illawarra Opens 2 and the Queanbeyan 2. Illawarra Opens 2 were too good in this match, winning 19-14.
In the Division 2 grand final, the Southern Highlands 17s took on the Illawarra Opens 2. This game ebbed and flowed throughout game with the Illawarra Opens 2 taking a 1 goal lead at the half time break. But the in the second half the southern Highlands fought back with some great defense and accurate shooting to win 24-13.
Division 1
In Division 1 we saw some great battles and close games, but it was the Illawarra Opens 1 team finishing the minor rounds on top with the, Queanbeyan 1 and the Illawarra 17s and Shoalhaven rounding out the top four teams heading to the finals series.
The first of the semi finals saw the Illawarra Opens 1 take on Shoalhaven. The Illawarra Opens were far too strong on the day winning 32-19. The second semi final was between Queanbeyan 1 and the Illawarra 17s. The Illawarra 17s put up a great fight but in the end Queanbeyan was too strong winning 23-14.
In the Division 1 grand final, Illawarra Opens 1 took on Queanbeyan 1 in the grand final rematch from last year. Queanbeyan 1 fought incredibly hard but The Illawarra Opens continued their form from the major semi final, comfortably winning 31-15.
