Umpire development continued on the weekend with 67 National B umpires attending the 2021 B Camp at Netball Central on Saturday, 6 March.
Facilitated by Netball NSW Workforce Manager Chris Hall, there was wealth of knowledge generously passed on throughout the day by experienced umpire presenters.
Bronwen Adams started the day presenting on Effective Communication, followed by Michelle Phippard talking about Advantage and it's application on court. After lunch, Lauren Hill presented on the umpiring techniques of Positioning, Vision & Timing and challenged the umpires with some on court scenarios. The final session of the day was a forum discussing the rules led by Chris and Lauren.
Chris noted, “It was great to see umpires from all over the state attend this year’s camp, umpires travelled from as far afield as Tamworth to Eurobodalla and Barellan & District.”
The umpires were challenged and encouraged to think about what they do on and off the court and how they can improve.
Participant Melissa Robertson remarked, “The energy levels, informative guidelines, interactivity and general engagement from the presenters was amazing. Having such experienced umpire presenters in the room, and more importantly seeing they too are human and used their own experiences to highlight errors made the camp so authentic and genuine. I'd recommend it to every single umpire I work with and co-umpire with.”
